Fortress

You built a fortress
A castle in the sky
It floats, it hovers and it flies
Running on fake smiles
You assigned a guard of beasts
Bred from those memories
Too ugly to mention

You built a fortress
And set up it’s defenses
You built walls, gates and doors
Under false pretenses such as:

‘This ain’t a fortress at all
It’s just my vault
This ain’t a fortress as you say
It’s just my safe’

Then why does it look like a cell
And though you say
‘You don’t need to be saved’
Your heart yells my name
My name and something like
‘Save me from myself’
My name and something like
‘I shouldn’t have but I fell
In love with that dream’

You built a fortress
A castle in the skies
A bleeding crying soul disguised
As someone who’s just fine
Now love is blind
But it helps me
See clearly you
